Chapter One: “They Call it Sin.”

I remember the day my best friend had a Blitz Ball tournament. His team the Zanarkand Abes, were to go up against the Duggles. It was the most looked forward to match up in all history. But that was only because my Friend, was the star player, and was following in the footsteps of his dad Jecht. In just One year he became the most loved player in Blitz Ball, just like his dad.

They never did finish the game.

I was sitting in the east block, to the right, in the fifth row watching my best friend prepare for his most prized Volley Shot , when out of the blue everything was exploding in the stadium, even the Blitz Ball water tank wasn’t working and water was streaming all over the place.

There wasn’t much I could do, and people were screaming and running away.  I was only running because I had seen my friend falling to the ground, and that was the only reason in my mind... But when I got to the place where I had seen him land, he was gone...

I spent days looking for him, as Zanarkand rebuilt itself. On the news, they said the attack was a weapon from the Temple of Bevelle. Apparently the temples just over Mt. Gagazet didn't like how Zanarkand was so advanced. Zanarkand was going to war, with the churches. Not only that, the Princess, King Yevon's daughter had gone missing.

It was really odd when I think about it, how I had spent so many days looking for Tidus, I was in a daze, and then it hit me. The memory of his reaction when his father had went missing. That was Ten years ago. He went out to Sea, and was gone. They never found him, and I had never found Tidus. That’s when I gave up, and stopped looking for him, and I had decided to become a Blitz Ball player just like my best friend, and his father.

It was four years later, that my life had changed forever..
I had just finished a training session, and was headed on my way back home when I had the oddest feeling that something strange was going on. So I had stopped and looked out towards the sea, and there I saw what looked to be a large black fish fin with scales that seemed to move.

“They Call it Sin.” Said a voice of a young woman behind me. “That’s the result of this war. This war that will have no winning sides. Everyone will die. There’s no point in going home. You’ll die too, just like everyone else.” The girl then walked away. She was barefoot, and her hair was long and silver. She looked to be of the age of 25. There was something... Creepy about her. Just then as I turned to look back out at the large Fish Fin, a very large wave came and knocked me over. I don’t remember what happened after that.

All I knew was that I was alone, and I had wanted very badly to go somewhere, somewhere where there were people. People I could surround myself with, people who could become my friends. When I Finally came to, I found myself floating on my back in an ocean. The sky was overcast with clouds, and I could hear the distant murmur of voices from above me. Yet I couldn’t understand them. They were talking in a funny language.

“Muug! Muug! Drana’c cusaputo uid eh dra fydan!” I was soothed by the voices though,  and I had past out yet again, just as an arm came around my waist. I was just happy to be around people I guess. When I finally came to, I saw a face of a girl with long blonde hair with braids and beads. On her forehead was a blue headband, and she seemed to be wearing what looked to be a yellow bikini top, a long scarf, and a very small pair of shorts. Her face was tanned, and she looked down on me with a worried expression.

“Yna oui ugyo?” She said as she felt my forehead and smiled.
“What? What did you say? I don’t understand you.” I said sitting up.
“Translation, are you okay?” The girl said in perfect English. This had taken me by surprise, and I turned to look at her.

“You speak English?” The girl nodded her head and then stood up.
“We found you out in the ocean. You’re lucky my brother who’s also named  Brother dived in to save you. You almost drowned.”
“I see.” I said as I looked around at my surroundings. “Where am I?”
“You’re on the Celcius Airship. Right now you’re in the Cabin. Why don’t you rest up a bit? There’s something I have to do.” She then stood up and jumped over a wooden railing and started to converse in that odd language again with two other males.

“Cra’c ugyo, pid  E drehg fa cruimt mad nacd ib.” The three then left talking in this language and I was left sitting on a soft bed between two others. I lay down on my back and watched the fan above my head.   I never even knew the girls name, or where I really was save on an Airship. With people who talked in a weird language. It was then that I had realized that the girl had very odd eyes. They had been green, with a black spiral.

“Who are these people?” I asked myself as I rolled onto my side. “Can I get home? Have people really died by the latest attack from the Yevon War?” These thoughts and many others were in my head. I didn’t get very much sleep.
It wouldn’t be for a few days that I had learned what I had wanted to learn. One can only imagine my shock when I was told that my home was destroyed. The very home that had rose up against the churches of Yevon.

“WHAT? It’s all ruins?” I had screamed as the girl who had told me her name was Rikku, nodded..
“That’s correct Tina. Over a thousand years ago, the people of  Bevelle, and Zanarkand had a war. Zanarkand was destroyed. So nobody lives there now except for a bunch of monkeys.”  She said smiling at some inner thought.
“Whoa! Hold on! Are you saying that The War that the people of Zanarkand and the followers of  Bevelle took part in destroyed Zanarkand? I can’t believe it! If anything it was that HUGE Fish I saw!” Rikku blinked and sat down slowly and looked at me.

“What else is there?” I asked.
Rikku smiled sadly and looked out a window from the Cabin of the Celcius.
“It’s better you hear about it from the expert on that kind of thing. The only person Alive who knows more about the Last Battle with Sin, and the most recent battle of Two years ago with Vegnagun, the High Summoner herself. I’ll make arrangements to drop you off at Besaid Island. That’s where you can find Yunnie. I was one of her guardians, and best friends. She’ll be able to tell you everything.” Rikku said as she stretched and then yawned. “Why don’t you go up to the Bridge and meet the guys, and Paine. They’re really nice people.”

“ I don’t know. I mean, I’m really shy about meeting people.” I said as I looked away, “I mean I can be really comfortable around at least One to Two people but I’ll never feel that comfortable around more then Two. If I am around more then Two people I say and do things that people get mad at me for. Best example is my friend who disappeared Four years ago.”

“I see. Oh well then. I’m going up on to the Bridge. We’ll tell you when it’s time to disembark. In the mean time try to at least cheer up okay?” Rikku said smiling as she stood up and walked down the stairs and then walked out the Cabin door.
I was left alone with my thoughts. Rikku was a really nice girl, but I just still felt so out of place. I missed playing Blitz Ball, and I missed my team mates from the Zanarkand Abes. I was starting to think that I was stuck in this weird place, and that I had no choice but to adapt. That there was no way I was going home.
It was only a matter of hours when Rikku came back and beckoned for me to follow her. Not really understanding why I did, I got up off the bed and wandered down the steps and towards her.

“We’re at Besaid Island now. I’ve been talking to Yunnie and she says she wants to meet you a whole lot so come on!” Rikku said grabbing my hand and dragging me down the short hallway and then pushing me into an elevator Lift and pressing a button that made it go down. When the door slid open after it stopped we were in what I assumed was the hallway leading to the engine room. She led me down that hallway and through the door at the end and then down some steps, turned and pulled me laughing and giggling down another set of steps which lowered into the shallow waters of Besaid Island.

I didn’t have much chance to really take in my surroundings because Rikku literally pulled me down the ramp, into the water, and ran pulling me up to the shore and then started to wave her free arm like mad at a girl who wore a white top with a very familiar design on it, and a pair of very short shorts, a belt, and what looked like a long piece of fabric on her left side. There was also a pouch on the same side on the belt. Her hair looked relatively short and a little spiky but that was what it looked like from where I was standing. When She got closer I could see a hair wrap around a very long pony tail. I looked at Rikku and then at this girl and lowered my eyes to the ground. She sure was pretty.

“Yunnie! Over here!” Rikku called as she waved her arm wildly in the air. “I’ve got that girl here. Come on I want you to meet her!”  This Yunnie hurried forward smiling.
“Okay, okay I’m here. So this is the girl you found?” She asked Rikku who nodded.
“Yup. Her Name is Tina. She has a very interesting story to tell you. I think it would be best that she tell Wakka and Lulu too. It might prove helpful.” Yunnie nodded and then looked at me.
“Well, welcome to Besaid Island. My name is Yuna, but my cousin calls me Yunnie as you can see. Lets go into town and when you’ve settled down and met everyone you can tell us your story.” She said looking at me and moving her hands in a gesture I realized was the Blitz Ball sign for Victory.

“I’ll leave you here Tina,” Rikku said, as she nodded at Yuna and turned to walk away. “You’re in really nice company. If there’s anything you need to know, just ask Yuna, or Lulu. Just don’t ask Wakka. He isn’t very bright.”
“That Wasn’t very nice Rikku.” Yuna said as she smiled. “But you’re right. He does lack imagination.” I nodded my head to Rikku and then turned to look at Yuna.
“So Tina, what is your story?” She asked me as she led me towards a path between to large cliff like hills.
“Well,” I said. “It all started in Zanarkand.. I was watching my best friend play Blitz Ball when we were attacked...” And I told Yuna my story. Little did I know, that it would change my life, forever.
